Empowering Young Women in the Delta

Smart investing @ your library®: Empowering Young Women in the Delta is a program offered by the Bolivar County Library System that was made possible by a grant by the Federal Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) in partnership with the American Library Association.  The purpose of the Smart investing @ your library® program is to present basic financial and investment education to young women aged 18-30 living in Bolivar County through:

·     monthly financial and investor education classes offered at four locations within Bolivar County

·     a new collection of books and other media pertaining to finance and investment available for check-out at the same four libraries offering classes

·     links at this webpage that provide additional information and resources pertaining to personal finance and investment

The goal of the program is to provide the financial and investment information and resources young women need to better manage their financial assets and to encourage long-term savings to benefit their and their children’s futures.

Classes

Hour-long classes present a new topic each month that build on knowledge gained at previous sessions.  While the program is designed for young women aged 18-30, classes are open to anyone aged 16 and above who wishes to attend.  Classes will be offered at four locations: 

·        Robinson-Carpenter Memorial Library in Cleveland

·        Field Memorial Library in Shaw  (See schedule of classes for

               classroom location)

·        Rosedale Public Library

·        Dr. Robert T. Hollingsworth Public Library in Shelby.

Financial and Investment Collection

A new collection of books and other media pertaining to personal finance and investment are available for check-out at the libraries listed above.  The collection expands on topics offered in classes, as well as introducing new topics for self-study.
